FAQ
How to Love your Skeins Well
First Things First
Each Maker’s Haven skein is hand-dyed in small batches, which means it deserves just a little extra kindness once it becomes part of your project.
Hand-dyed yarns can occasionally release a small amount of excess dye during the first wash — especially deeply saturated or high-contrast colorways. This is completely normal. To be safe, I suggest washing finished items separately the first time.
What Does “Superwash” Mean?
If your yarn is labeled Superwash, it means the wool has been specially treated so the fibers won’t felt or shrink as easily.
Superwash yarn can typically be:
-
Machine washed on gentle (cold water)
-
Laid flat to dry
However, for the longest life and softest feel, I still recommend hand washing when possible. Even sturdy yarn appreciates a gentle touch.
Blocking your Yarn
Finished pieces should settle and soften beautifully after blocking.
To block:
-
Soak gently in cool water with wool wash
-
Press out excess water (no wringing)
-
Shape to size and pin in place on a blocking mat
-
Let the fibers rest until completely dry.
Yarn is meant to be used and loved.
Treat it gently, let it age naturally, and it will carry your stitches — and your stories — for years to come.
Receiving your Yarn
How your skeins find their way home to you...
At Maker’s Haven, every skein begins as a thoughtful moment and it leaves us the same way: carefully, intentionally, and wrapped with care.
Processing Time
Each order is lovingly prepared within 3–5 business days.
The studio rests from packing on Mondays and Tuesdays — quiet days set aside for other commitments and tending the behind-the-scenes parts of this little haven.
Orders placed Saturday through Tuesday will ship on Wednesday, once the wrapping table is set again and the parcels are ready for their journey.
Thank you for giving this small-batch rhythm room to breathe.
During shop updates or larger seasonal collections, please allow a little extra time while the dye pots are still warm and the studio is humming.
If you order a yarn club subscription, processing time will be listed in the product description — good stories take a little time to plot and the color takes a little steeping.
Packaging
Your skeins are:
-
Gently twisted and labeled
-
Tucked into protective wrapping
-
Shipped in a mailer to keep them safe on their journey
We aim to use packaging that is as thoughtful as the yarn inside — minimal where possible, protective where necessary.

Orders are shipped via USPS (or another reliable carrier when needed).
You’ll receive tracking information the moment your haven-bound parcel begins its journey.
Please make sure your shipping address is correct at checkout — once a package leaves our hands, we cannot reroute it.
Lost or Delayed Packages
Once your order is with the carrier, it’s officially on its own little adventure. If your package seems delayed or lost, please reach out — we’ll help you navigate next steps with care.
Maker’s Haven is not responsible for packages marked as delivered but not received, though we will always do our best to help you sort it out.

Returns & Exchanges
Due to the small-batch, hand-dyed nature of our yarn, we are unable to accept returns on standard orders. If there is a problem with your order, please contact us within 7 days of delivery. We want you to love what arrives at your door!
Where do our fibers come from?
Every skein at Maker’s Haven begins long before it reaches the dye pot.
I choose yarn bases from suppliers who are deeply intentional about their sourcing — partners who prioritize humane treatment of animals, fair and respectful working conditions, and thoughtful stewardship of the land. Knowing the fiber’s story matters to me. It’s the foundation everything else is built on.
Our Superwash Merino wool begins its journey in South America, where the wool is carefully sourced, and then travels to Europe to be treated. There, it undergoes superwash processing that meets the highest OEKO-TEX® standards — a certification that ensures the yarn is tested for harmful substances and processed according to strict environmental and safety guidelines.
The result is a yarn that is exceptionally soft, durable, and thoughtfully made — ready to carry color, stitches, and stories forward.
You can learn more about what “superwash” means and how to care for it in the section above.
